Callan-Harris Physical Therapy offers services beyond those of other physical therapy clinics. With our specialty areas in performing arts medicine and lymphedema, we serve the community through education and outreach, in addition to seeing patients in our clinic. Can we help you? In Our Clinic
One-on-One Treatment Sessions. Our in-clinic services begin with a one-hour comprehensive evaluation, with treatment programs tailored to each patient's own needs and activities. Each half-hour follow-up appointment is one-on-one with your therapist; we see only one patient at a time. In addition to exercise and manual therapy, your therapist will provide you with education in self-management, injury prevention and ergonomics so you can avoid future injuries.
Exercise Classes. CHPT offers classes for patients who do not feel ready to return to exercise, or who are worried about joining a gym. Under the guidance of skilled physical therapists who designed the classes, you will work at your own comfort level until you feel ready to move on.
In the Community
Community Education on lymphedema after breast cancer surgery. CHPT staff are frequent presenters at the Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester and have presented at the Manhattan JCC. In addition, we have held in-services to educate area doctors and their staffs about lymphedema.
Injury Treatment and Prevention for Performing Artists: CHPT offers workshops on injury prevention and performance enhancement for area dance and music teachers and their students. CHPT therapists regularly teach workshops for the Garth Fagan Dance Summer Movement Institute, Nazareth College and U of R Dance Festivals. We have created and presented tailor-made workshops for area dance schools. For musicians, CHPT has presented workshops for teacher studios at the Eastman School of Music, the U of R's Day of Brass and the 2012 World Viola Congress.
Stage Call. Recognized as the premier clinic for performing artists in Rochester, CHPT participates in Stage Call Urgent Medical Services program. Stage Call provides performing artists who are in Rochester performing for a short time or on tour with a list of appropriate medical professionals who specialize in performing arts. Through Stage Call, artists are given expedited care through our office, getting them the care they need as soon as possible. Participating venues include Rochester Broadway Theatre League, Rochester City Ballet, Geva Theatre Center, Blue Cross Arena and Nazareth College Arts Center.
On-Site
Backstage and pre-performance physical therapy support for performing arts organizations. CHPT therapists can be found backstage for Rochester City Ballet's annual The Nutcracker and spring performances, and RCSD School of the Arts hires CHPT to treat and educate their students during rehearsal week and performances of their annual Dance Concert. We have treated cast members of national touring shows at Rochester's Auditorium Center, Blue Cross Arena and at Geva Theatre Center. We have been on-site for touring Broadway productions of The Phantom of the Opera and Pippin.
